Summer 2012 Green Acre Programs

The Green Acre website has posted plans for the following summer youth "camps":

June 29-July 4      Camp Green Acre (for ages 9-11 who are entering grades 4-6 in the fall)
June 29-July 4      Family Session
July 6-11              Badasht Academy (for youth)
July 13-18            Jr. Youth Environmental Week (for ages 12-14 who are entering grades 7-9 in the fall)
July 13-18            Family Session

The site also states they will be accepting registrations on March 7.

Now is a perfect time to spread news of the availability of this site, in hopes that everyone seeking a ride can be introduced to someone offering a ride from their area.  Also, if you already plan on going, you may fill out a 2012 season Ride Offer / Request.

Summer Update

We hope you are having a great summer!  A quick update about "GARideShare":

  • We didn't have any interest in ridesharing to Camp Green Acre.
  • We did, however, have many families arrange rides for Badasht Academy.
For example, several families from Philadelphia didn't know about other's planning rides until they met up through GARideShare.  Great!  That is just the kind of thing we were looking to facilitate.

As for the remaining summer kid program, the Junior Youth Institute only has a few eager parties enrolled (from the NJ area).  There is still time, however, to get your ride request in, and to possibly meet someone else to carpool with.

Know anyone from your area planning on driving their early teens to the Junior Youth Institute?  Please forward them info about this site.  Thanks!

Ready To Roll

As of May, we are officially "ready to roll".  Please look at these pages:

It will probably answer what you were about to email us about.  Remember, this is a service to the friends provided by a few volunteers.  We hope to reply promptly in all cases, but if we are delayed, please don't get mad at us.  (Or Green Acre!)

If you have additional questions, you can find our email address at the bottom of the F.A.Q. page.

We wish all well for a fun, fulfilling, and spiritual summer at Green Acre!

Welcome!

Welcome to "GARideShare".  This website is a service to families who love Green Acre Baha'i School, and whose children attend any of the summer youth "camps":

  • Camp Green Acre
  • Junior Youth Academy
  • Badasht Academy

This site will attempt to facilitate those families who wish to carpool find others looking for the same.  That might mean you are looking for a ride, or expect to have an empty seat in your mini-van and are offering a ride, or you are interested in driving another child one way in exchange for having their family drive the other way.  Participation is open to anyone who states they have registered or definitely plan to register for a specific Green Acre program, and who considers themselves within driving distance of Green Acre.

While we have discussed the idea with Green Acre staff and received a warm reception to the idea, this site is NOT an official service of Green Acre, or any Baha'i Assembly or Council.  Rather, it is a effort initiated by a long-time "Green Acre dad".

How it will work: privacy is key, and we will not publicly disclose details about your child.  We will be asking for the parent's name and contact info, town, the programs in which you are interested in carpooling, and the number of seats offered or requested.  Once provided, you will have access to the same level of information about families attending the same program.  It will then be up to those participants to contact each other, see if their arrangement is a good fit, to work out pick-up or rendez-vous details, and to decide how transportation costs will be shared.

At this time, we are just getting started, and soon expect to allow parents to submit their ride offers and requests for the 2011 summer programs.  Stay tuned, and check back soon for more info.  And: consider spreading news of this site to families in your area.  The web address of this blog is:

We expect we will set up an email address, soon, too.
